At the end of the 19th century life in the Thessalian plain begins to change. From the hands of the Turkish lovers the land passes to rich Greeks of the diaspora: doctors, merchants, lawyers and even politicians. They are the so-called “tsiflikades”. Among them is Nicholas Doganis, a merchant who claims his own dream, a new beginning for his broken family. Two sons so different from each other, a daughter who becomes a woman and a wife who tries in vain to keep the balance in the new household. The hummingbirds bow again to their new masters and bow their heads to the sweat-soaked earth. But what changes does the new boss bring to the plain? Can they still hope for a better life?
